How do I Chat on gmail when I dont have AIM?

I always here the same thing about how you can contact your AIM buddies on gmail, but I dont have AIM, and I want to chat on gmail. Is there any way I can do this?

You can chat live on g-mail with anyone else that has a g-mail account. On the left side of the screen on the g-mail inbox page, your contacts are listed there. The contacts that also have g-mail will have a circle next to their name. If they are online it will turn green, if they are idle it will be orange, if they are busy it will be red. If they are not online it is gray. Just double click on someone's name and a IM window will pop up.
