Is the Gmail Video and Voice Chat private?

As in, does Google see what is going on in your chats? For example, are they watching and listening to the web cam session as well? Also, do they read the usual Gmail conversations?

It is from Google, but hackers and others can probably watch through their own ways.

Privacy is important, but unless you are a famous person or a celebrity, you can use internet web cam safely with some powerful internet security tools and firewalls.
